Hugh Van Schaick is an emerging artist based and living in Sydney, Australia. Hugh has developed a studio based practice and an artistic style stemmed from a simple love for mark making. Hugh's current practice, primarily based in portraiture, is concerned with ideas of strength, weakness, family and youth, studying the subject’s imperfections in a neutral state and focusing on the gaze. Hugh’s work is an intense, honest observation of the people who play a part in his life and how they sculpt his world.
