How much time do you daily invest in your phone? Are you aware of the amount of information used? These questions are the trigger for today's design post: Life in Data. Florence Levasseur, a Canadian graphic and motion designer, is concerned about those numbers. And she is willing to open our eyes to this topic with her designs, both graphic and motion.
Life in data is a project wishing to revisit the methods of hierarchization and visualization of digital data. Its objective is to allow through design a better understanding of what data is. Using procedural and auto-generative animations, create new systems and data management to show the data other by the code that composes it. The goal of this project was to encourage awareness about the excessive consumption of data by informing about this hidden face of the digital environment. A bold logo design, which combines serif type and a pixelated one, gives a tech imprint. A match we'd never thought would work so exquisitely good. Florence's project has an experimental style. She brings to the table organic figures and shapes in a dark and 'angry' way. Somehow it reminds us of when Dementors almost soul-sucked Harry Potter's soul. Pretty accurate, uh?
Leaving aside the fantastic world of J.K. Rowling, this unique design has a more dynamic and modern approach, thanks to Florence's abilities with the digital tools and programs. We know this might sound a bit contradictory. However, her posture is to be conscientious of the amount of time spent living behind a screen. We hope her fascinating work has some impact on all of us!
