In the last decade, design has shifted to giving a better user experience. This situation pushed designers to find new tools and different ways to add value. For instance, the Olin Origins Sample Folder shows the possibilities of offset printing on a new range of colored papers. Designed by Amsterdam-based agency Design & Practice, the sample folder is the first of a range of sales tools for Olin Origins, the newest collection in the expanding family of Olin papers.
Within the folder's pages, you will find a series of photographed sculptures created by artistic practice Rive Roshan to represent the materiality of the Olin Origins range. He carefully combined raw materials like pebble, chalk, cereal textures, indigo pigment, and lava stone. He translates the richness of the materials onto paper through offset printing. The photographs were separated and recomposed into custom especial ink layers to represent the material qualities of the Olin Origins range. An Amsterdam-based printer, Robstolk, was in charge of this project's printing process. Each photograph impression used a wide range of innovative print processes. For example, silver offset over black UV offset onto black paper, creating a monochromatic print that almost feels like old silver prints in the early days of photography.
This sample folder is a celebration of the possibilities of print and paper. And it aims to inspire a new generation of designers to bring brands to life through designing haptic experiences. In other words, to provide the customer with value in an unexpected way.
