THE CHALLENGE Icelandic-based company Örlö hired Designsake Studio to bring the world's first carbon negative omega supplement to market. Örlös mission is ambitious and pertinent: evolve our food systems to produce endless nourishment with positive environmental impact. Algae is the sacred plant at the center of their business. Designsake learned that our brightest, healthiest future is equal parts nature and technology and algae is our means for getting there.Örlöss product and vision stood apart from anyone else in the supplement category. This brand needed to reflect Örlös ambitious, future-facing approach and diverge from the tropes of brands in the medicinal and naturopathic space.
THE SOLUTION Designsake named Örlö by drawing on two Icelandic words: "Örlög, which translates to fate or destiny, and "Ör," meaning micro.A custom logo treatment for the brand identity and a reusable + refillable packaging grounds consumers in reality while inspiring them to see something beyond the present. Typography balances familiar and futuristic to nod to the macro, far off impact of the micro, organic matter at hand. The focal point of the supplement jar and spray bottle is a split pill and spray graphic that illustrates Designsake's interpretation of Örlös offering: superior nutrition in pure, sustainable abundance, no sacrifices required. Illustrations also nod to the way Örlö is consumed an oval, pill-like shape for the supplements, and a circle for the oral spray.
