This photography project is called Stilled Chimeras, a beautiful set of sculptures created with silicone and it was conceptualized by Margaux Crump, an artist that combines different materials to give form to the art.
Inspired by Dutch Golden Age floral still life paintings, Stilled Chimeras are botanical, animal, and sculptural assemblages that explore the still life as a public display of impermanent fantasies.
In addition to featuring flowers, fungi, animals, and insects, each Stilled Chimera also includes small sex-safe silicone sculptures, which the artist casts from roots, fruits, and vegetables. Soft and fleshy in shimmering shades of pink, these sculptures blur the bounds of what can be read as plant or animal, masculine or feminine, real or fantastic.
