Traveling Through Sham Tseng

The title of this design post invites us to travel to Hong Kong, literally. In this new adventure we're sharing with you, the exact location we're visiting is Sham Tseng's village. The place is culturally rich as its diversified inhabitants keep their traditions alive. The Conservancy Association Centre for Heritage from Hong Kong asked Pengguin design studio to create a visual identity and exhibition design for Sham Tseng.

Surrounded by mountains and seas, the village's history goes back hundreds of years back. It started from farming, and through the prosperity of industrial development, it has been transformed into a large-scale residential community today. The community dichotomously integrates the Hakka and Chiu Chow aborigines, industry and farming alternate, and modern residences and old historical buildings. Pengguin's designers and creatives came up with a colorful and vibrant concept to enhance the village's values and highlight them. Continuing with the dichotomy theme, they included traditional, oriental typography with occidental writing. Plus, they combined organic shapes in pairs with varied popping colors to make the idea even more consistent. However, these forms also work independently as direction signs all over Sham Tseng village.

All in all, we are enchanted by Pengguin studio's sensibility to manage to create such a powerful and vibrant concept for the village. They brought the best of Sham Tseng to the surface. We hope you enjoy this trip as much as we do :)
