It's been a while since we last posted about music. Today's design issue is about a cover album and a band's identity. But to be more on the theme, let's transport to the beach, specifically to the shore. Take yourself back, inspiring the marine breeze. And let this breeze take you to Finland. Mika Mäkinen is a multidisciplinary visual designer based in Helsinki, and he is the creative leader behind uu's first extended play.
uu is a Finnish alternative rock band from Hiidenranta, Nummela. Most of the band members have played together since childhood. In 2020, uu was formed by Santeri Suomikallio, vocals; Riku Wirta and Niklas Eriksson, guitars; Lauri Huhtinen, bass; and Petteri Huhtinen, drums. "Noise from the shore" is uu‘s first EP, and it will be released this summer. Followed by a full-length album later this year. The meaning behind the band's name “uu” (you-you): we all have at least two sides in our personalities. One is the way we perceive ourselves and the way others perceive us. The graphic composition in some way represents this duality by reflecting the same black and white rock photograph out of kilter intervened by two tones of blue ink strokes. All in all, this is a great balanced work with a pale cool color palette that offers visual calmness. Perhaps this post triggers a beach trip for the weekend.
