Joel Derksen designed Wiki Wiki Poke Restaurant. "No tiki torch stuff. I want to blast Wu-Tang Clan, and I love jellyfish." When a brief like this arrives for Grand Rapids' only poke shop, it's clear that it needs to break from the norms.
Working closely with founder Keith Allard, Wiki Wiki Poke Shop channelled the urban chic of Shoreditch with the take-no-prisoners attitude of gangster rap. The restaurant, launched in early 2018, has been described as "if an Instagram meme had a restaurant." The project ranged from a variable typeface with a series of 'wikis' through to a mural that stretched across the east-facing wall.
